HIV full form: HIV or Human immunodeficiency virus is a virus that targets cells in the immune system. It kills or damages the body’s immune system cells. Over time immune system begins to fall which is called immunodeficiency, and this increases the risk of infection and tumors that a healthy immune system would usually be able to fend off. These complications are referred to as AIDS, or acquired immune deficiency syndrome. It is the most advanced stage of infection with HIV. AIDS mostly occurs in senior’s age like age over. Between 1991 and 1996, AIDS in adults over 50 rose more than twice as fast as in younger adults.

Types Of HIV: -

Now there are two distinct types of HIV:-

  1. HIV-1
  2. HIV-2

HIV-1 is more commonly associated with AIDS worldwide.

HIV-2 is rarer and typically restricted to areas in western Africa and southern Asia.

HIV-2 is so uncommon that “HIV” almost always refers to HIV-1.

  1. HIV is most often spread through unprotected sex with an infected person.

Symptoms of HIV:-

  1. The first sign of HIV infection may be swollen glands and flu-like symptoms.
  2. These may come and go a month or two after infection. Several symptoms may not appear until months or years later.
  3. Fatigue, the feeling of being extremely tired

  5. Dementia is a general term for loss of memory, language, problem-solving, and other thinking abilities.

How HIV/AIDS can be cured?:-

  1. There is no cure but there are many medicines to fight both HIV infection and cancer that come with it. This is HIV treatment.
  2. No cure exists for AIDS, but strict adherence to antiretroviral regimens (ARVs) can dramatically slow the disease’s progress as well as prevents secondary infections and complications.
  3. Most people who are getting treated for HIV take three or more drugs. This is called combination therapy or "the cocktail." It is also known as antiretroviral therapy (ART) or highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART).
  4. People can live with the disease for many years.

It can be prevented by using strategies such as abstinence (not having sex), never sharing needles, and using condoms the right way every time you have sex. You may also be able to take the help of HIV prevention medicines like pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP).
